Hurricanes

Melania Trump wisely changed out of stilettos before inspecting damage from Hurricane Harvey. No one, not even the president’s wife, should teeter on skyscraper poles in such circumstances. WHEN THE POWER GOES OUT

Perishables can stay fresh for about twelve hours if you keep the fridge door closed. Move them to the freezer section for an even longer shelf life. After a day, throw away medication that requires refrigeration. Generators should be set up twenty feet from the house, to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning. Water purification systems may fail when the power goes, so don’t take chances with tap water. Drink bottled instead.

Stay inside the car if a power line falls on it. If the vehicle then catches fire, leap out as far as you can and maintain a distance of at least fifty feet.
